Why We Hate PE

Your vet gets bought. A year later the prices are up, the staff you liked is gone, and the place just feels different. Here is what actually happened. The buyer borrowed the money to buy it, then handed that debt to the business itself, so the place now works mainly to pay off its own purchase price. Your retirement savings may have helped fund the deal. None of this is a law of nature. We used to have rules that made it hard to do, and over fifty years we took those rules away. That is what makes this a story about our democracy rather than a story about capitalism.
